We can increase the number of Names we chant by using even our enemy as a tool. The biggest obstacle to maintaining our naam jap chain is unnecessary talk. When we start talking with people, we forget to chant the Name. Even without talking, our thoughts can distract us, and once again, we lose the Name.
Trick by Saint Tulsidas
Someone once asked Tulsidas ji how he was able to chant so many Names. He replied, “I attach the Name to the end of every word I speak.” For example, the sentence “At the end of every word I speak” becomes:
AtRadha theRadha endRadha ofRadha theRadha everyRadha wordRadha IRadha speakRadha.
At first, it may seem like the sentence takes more time to say, but in the long run this practice gives far superior results.
Extension of the Trick
We can take this method one step further. Thoughts are nothing but words in the mind. Many times, we are unable to control our thoughts, which leads to overthinking. Instead of trying to stop overthinking, we can simply add the Lord’s Name to the end of every word that arises in our thoughts. This way, even overthinking becomes an opportunity for remembrance.
